About Wuh.ey

Vlady Dupuy, an artist working under the name Wuh.ey is a Franco-Togolese creator whose work blends elements from daily life and cinematic culture to craft striking visual narratives. Drawing from anthropology, symbolism, and modern influences, the artist uses AI as the primary medium to challenge the boundaries of traditional art. Wuh.ey’s pieces often feature vibrant colors, masks, and intricate patterns to dramatize stories and provoke thought. His work has been showcased internationally, including at the WMF Bologna and Photopia Hamburg, where he won first place in an AI-generated image contest.

With a background in traditional and digital art, I’ve always been curious about new technologies. Early on, I saw that AI had the potential to open new creative doors. The positive feedback I’ve received has reinforced my decision to embrace it, as it allows me to merge contemporary culture and personal influences in ways that add depth to my storytelling.

What drew you into working with AI art?

Can you walk us through your process from when you have a thought in your head to a final image?

My creative process starts with an idea or a story I want to dramatize, often sparked by memories, travels, or contemporary media. I see my work as cinematic snapshots that invite viewers to imagine the larger narrative. Once the idea is clear, I experiment with AI, focusing on symbols, emotions, and themes. This iterative process helps me refine the composition and mood until the final image resonates with the story I want to tell.

What can you tell artists that paint or draw about AI and how to embrace it?

AI is a powerful tool that can expand the horizons of creativity. For traditional artists hesitant about AI, I’d suggest viewing it as an extension of your creative arsenal rather than a replacement. It’s not about abandoning traditional methods but using AI to explore new perspectives and bring to life stories that might be challenging to express otherwise. It’s a gateway to innovation and experimentation.

Where does the inspiration for your work come from?

My inspiration stems from my Franco-Togolese background, as well as my interest in fashion, anthropology, and contemporary culture. I aim to translate these influences into bold, symbolic narratives that challenge and engage the viewer.

How do you see your work evolving as technology advances?

The future of technology offers limitless possibilities. Current AI generative tools are just the beginning. I’m eager to explore how advancements will deepen the interaction between the viewer and my work, creating even more immersive experiences.
