Intention and sustainability are at the intersection of self-taught artist Alexander Daniels Escobar’s art practice. Characterized by energetic colors, depth, and fluid forms and shapes, Daniels Escobar’s paintings embrace the unknown beauty that lies in abstraction. Repurposing paint and other materials such as paper, the Detroit-based artist’s conceptually driven practice begins to form a distinct visual language by carefully and meticulously playing with color, texture, and the manipulation of mediums through paint on canvas. This process reimagines art making and breathes new life into commonly used materials.
Here Daniels Escobar invites us into his studio practice to explore his future-forward art practice.
About the Artist
Alexander Daniels Escobar is a Detroit based self-taught artist known for his vibrant non-representational abstractions. His fascination for art and fashion began at a young age. He was influenced by his parents’ tastes and knew early on that the creative path would eventually become his lane to thrive in. Often as a child, his parents would take him to various museums, art galleries and other artistic activities. These outings would later catapult his art career. His paintings are characterized by vibrant colors/ patterns and recycled materials as he is passionate about minimizing his carbon footprint. He is very meticulous about every aspect of each piece, resulting in the birth of a certain edge to each creation.
Artist Statement
Life’s choices and decisions are never straightforward and inevitably will be interpreted in various ways. Similar statements have been said about non-representational abstract artwork. Abstractions can be transformed in both medium and texture allowing me to create beautiful, chaotic and sometimes jarring pieces. I am also able to manipulate colors, odd shapes and patterns when I am creating in this form. My goal is and will always be, to keep creating in hopes that others will understand that beauty can be found anywhere.
